It is breathtaking to behold, stunning in size. Seen from afar, it looks almost unreal. A granite dome, cut in half. I have been to Yosemite at many different stages in my life. And while the outdoors in general have provided a source of pleasure and consternation, Yosemite embodies the heart of the wilderness.
Half Dome, in particular, holds a special place in my heart. It is here, through the arduous task of summiting Half Dome, that my wife fell in love with the outdoors.
My chosen profession means I live inside technology, engaging with it, speak to it in its language, and sometimes taking a hammer to it. But out here, where the cell towers don’t reach and the satellite is spotty, where sunrise and set are the true start and end of the day, there is music in the silence.
